📸 PHOTOGRAPHY JOURNEY: THE AZORES 2027

Travel with us into the middle of the Atlantic, to islands where volcanic lakes hide inside calderas, hydrangeas line the roads in full bloom and the weather can change within minutes.

The Azores in June are green, humid and incredibly rewarding for photography — mist, long exposures and layered volcanic cones photographed with a telephoto lens.

This photography journey is designed for those who want to slow down, experience the landscape and search for strong, timeless images rather than simply collect postcard views.

🌋 SÃO MIGUEL AND AN OPTIONAL TRIP TO FLORES

São Miguel will be our main base throughout the journey — crater lakes, thermal springs and waterfalls hidden in lush forests.

Those who want to experience even more can join an optional trip to Flores, the greenest island in the archipelago.

We will not book Flores blindly in advance. We will monitor the weather and SATA flights and decide on location according to the current forecast, avoiding unnecessary risk.

📍 ITINERARY

6 June

Arrival in Ponta Delgada and accommodation on São Miguel

7–8 June

São Miguel:

the twin lakes of Sete Cidades caldera (Vista do Rei, Boca do Inferno), Lagoa do Fogo above the clouds, and the Salto do Prego waterfall with its abandoned village

9 June

Depending on the weather: either we continue photographing on São Miguel, or we take a SATA flight to Flores, booked locally if conditions are suitable (optional)

Flores:

the amphitheatre of waterfalls at Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro, the basalt columns of Rocha dos Bordões, the crater lakes Lagoa Funda and Lagoa Comprida, and the westernmost villages of Europe, Fajã Grande and Fajãzinha

13–17 June

São Miguel:

the thermal spring in the ocean at Ponta da Ferraria, the dramatic cliffs of Nordeste, the Ponta do Sossego viewpoint, and hydrangeas in full bloom

18 June

Departure from Ponta Delgada

🛠️ WHAT TO EXPECT & WHAT TO BRING

Style of the trip:

This is not a traditional workshop, but a shared photography journey with continuous discussion about technique, composition and filters.

Main photographic themes:

Morning mist above volcanic calderas, long exposures of waterfalls and coastlines, and working with rapidly changing weather.

Recommended equipment:

Tripod, wide-angle lens and telephoto lens, ND filters (ideally ND64 and ND2000), and spare batteries.

Clothing:

Waterproof layered clothing and sturdy footwear are essential. On the Azores, rain can arrive even on a sunny day.
