Travel with us to the north of the Iberian Peninsula, where the Bay of Biscay meets the green coastline of Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country.

Northern Spain in early spring is wet, dramatic and photographically underrated. Nobody comes here for guaranteed sunshine — and that is exactly why the light can be so extraordinary.

This photography journey is designed for those who want to slow down, experience the landscape and search for strong, timeless images rather than simply collect postcard views.

🌊 COSTA VERDE AND THE BASQUE CLIFFS

Three bases, one coastline.

The colourful amphitheatre of Cudillero, the dramatic rock formations of Playa del Silencio, medieval Santillana del Mar wrapped in morning mist, and the layered flysch cliffs near Zumaia.

The landscape stretches from green Asturias through the limestone scenery of Cantabria to the Basque cliffs and the island hermitage of Gaztelugatxe.

📍 ITINERARY

8 March

Arrival in Bilbao and transfer to Asturias (approx. 2–3 hrs)

9–11 March

Asturias:

the colourful fishing village of Cudillero, the dramatic bay of Playa del Silencio, the sea "geysers" of Bufones de Pría, the hidden beach of Playa de Gulpiyuri, and Cabo Vidío lighthouse

12 March

Transfer to Cantabria, with a stop in San Vicente de la Barquera on the way (approx. 2 hrs)

13–16 March

Cantabria:

the cobbled streets of Santillana del Mar in the morning mist, rock formations and dunes at Liencres, and Faro de Cabo Mayor lighthouse near Santander

17 March

Transfer to the Basque Country (approx. 1 hr)

18 March

Basque Country:

the island hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the layered flysch cliffs of Zumaia / Deba, and the coastal towns of Mundaka and Bermeo

19 March

Departure from Bilbao

🛠️ WHAT TO EXPECT & WHAT TO BRING

Style of the trip:

This is not a traditional workshop, but a shared photography journey with continuous discussion about technique, composition and filters.

Main photographic themes:

Long exposures of surf and mist, early blue hour photography in towns, and layering rock formations with a telephoto lens.

Recommended equipment:

Tripod, wide-angle lens and telephoto lens, ND filters (ideally ND64 and ND2000), and spare batteries.

Clothing:

Warm, waterproof outdoor clothing and sturdy waterproof footwear are essential. Atlantic weather can change very quickly.
